alright he is in another shell, let's see if this lasts! I am getting good at reshelling lol. I hope I am not stressing him out a lot, I am doing all I can. I am gonna turn the light off for a little then check back to see if he is still in the shell

alright so I went back to check on him and he was naked again. I have never seen a hermit crab do this. So i put him in a larger one. He was pretty aggressive this time around and really threw his claw at me trying to pinch. I got him in there finally without getting pinched. He seemed to slide into it more easily than the other shells I have put him in. I guess I will check back soon!! I am really not sure why this is happening, I just hope he stays in a shell

Mine made it, but if you look in the Emergency section you will see my post. I don't know how someone made him get out of his shell because he is the biggest of my group. But when I dug him up, he went strait to a shell, which probably means that he had his shell taken off. That is why mine "streaked."

woke up this morning and he was naked again. I think he is too weak to carry a shell, I'm not sure. He is my biggest crab so his shell was not stolen. I know my crabitat conditions are great, I did just bring him home about a week ago, maybe he is stressed or sick from the petstore, he is very active, it seems like he is restless.

It is very likely he has pps if you just got him.

Hm, stress can result in a crab being very active. I'm a bit surprised he hasnt begun to wilt yet, but they all have their own pace. I agree he likely has PPS. :?

Since he's going shelless when you can't keep an eye on him how about you get a container with a lid, put a hole or two in it for ventilation, add a few milimeters of dechlorinated water to the bottom and use that as an ISO.

Continue to offer a salt water dish, shells, high energy food (protein, honey, peanut butter, fish oil and bee pollen if you have it, and as always, calcium). If you can powder any dry food (like insects or nuts for example) that may reduce the energy he expends in eating (I use a crab designated coffee grinder, but a mortar & pestle, or in a pinch any thing that crushes will do).

He has stayed in his shell, I offered honey and he seemed to like it. He isnt moving much and seems much more lethargic now. We will see what happens!! Hope the little guy makes it

I had a crab I've had for years just go through this after a molt. I had to reshell him repeatedly and keep him in ISO. After two months in ISO, he went down to molt (i hope). Lots of time, humidity, healing foods and dark. I only checked him every 2 days to change food and water after he stated in his shell for 24 hours. Good luck to your hermie!

He stayed in the shell for bout two days. He started to be less active and more lethargic. He lost two more limbs. When I woke up this morning he had no movement and smelled fishy :( I did all I could and feel awful. I hope he didnt suffer much. RIP Sushi

Aw. Sorry for your loss but sometimes by time we get them from the pet store they have been treated to bad they are just too far gone to save. It happens sometimes.

Sorry for your loss, he was a great little guy. About the PPS, that’s probably what he had. My crab that I got two weeks ago, is still lying inside the deep moss, and he never came out. He’s alive, and completely healthy, just de-stressing.

So sorry to hear this. :(

You really did all you could, he just wasn't well enough to pull through. When they're that weakened they often don't make it. Just try to remember that you did your best!
