Post by Lewisthecrab » Sun Dec 24, 2017 5:29 pm

Hey there everyone! Merry Christmas. I am wondering about the better heater for terrariums: Heat lamp or Heating pad? This is just a question, nothing is wrong with my habitat. Thanks in advance.:

IMO, pads up to 75/90g... anything over, better off using a lamp.

I started with heat lamps, and the main reason I am now a lover of UTH is the ease of use. No moving it for tank maintenance, no blown bulbs at the worst possible time, no worries about me dropping and breaking it, no worries about the cats being around it. It's a one time purchase and it works without touching it.

I used heat lamps, and ceramic heat emitters when I first started. I switched to ultratherm heaters a few years ago and have never looked back! On large tanks, you do have to sometimes use more than one, but it is low wattage, safer, and waaaaaaaay less maintenance than anything else.

I used a heat lamp until I got my 29 gal with glass lid. Then I was afraid of the glass cracking so i got a Uth. I love it. It works so well especially with my thermostat on it that I hardly have to pay any attention to the temp of the tank. Even when the temps drop to freezing.
