Look How Far We've Come

When I first started with this tank I had, well....

This. It was a good start! Fresh and saltwater, properly prime'd, a rotating food menu, a UTH on the side of the tank, lots of sand....

After (a lot of) research, time, and general effort, the tank looked like...

This! The pools got deeper but shorter, allowing more sand-space and craft mesh ramps (which I hate the look of, but the crabs preferred). The wheel got a fair bit of use, mostly by my biggest crab, and the willow tunnel was a favorite. Around here was where I used tape in layers to make a "cover" over the screen to hold in humidity - wow, what a difference!

And then there's just last week, after I cleaned.

I'm pretty proud of it! You can see Uracil hanging out in the green plantwall (the humidity stays up over there when I take the lid off to clean, so they tend to do that) in the upper image. Lots more fake plants/visual barriers to encourage them to be out and about despite humans, more shells, two mosspits, the temp/hygro-meters moved so it's not pressed against the heater, moss in general about the sub (the isopods love it!), and even better food variety. Hopefully I'll be able to look back at this later on and see even more progress!

Uracil really likes this layout, too! I caught them in the food dish before the lights were all out just earlier, and all day I've seen them climbing the willow tunnel/cocohut.

Wow! Great job, the tank looks amazing :) I love how natural and cosy it looks. Defiantly a big improvement!

Yeah looks great! It seems to me crabs prefer a generally messier or should I say 'crabby chic' layout ;)
