What other kind of hermies goes well with E's?
Hello everyone its been a couple years since I been on this site but I decided to be a hermie owner again after my other one's had past away after being with me for 6 years. But I currently have 7 tiny tiny Ecuadorian hermies in a 75 gallon tank with 10 inch substrate & second level and wanted to know would straws or indos pair well with these guys? My last clan were pps.. Thanks

My personal opinion? I’ve kept all of them with Es. HOWEVER ~ (imo), the following should be met for no issues to occur-
1) Regardless of size, every E should have a minimum of 10 gallons.
2) Substrate depth should be a minimum of 10-12” across the entire tank (unless crab/crabs are three times larger than this height) Es don’t get as large as other species.
3) Must provide protein daily - I give all of mine 2 proteins a day, as well as several calcium choices.
I do recommend a modified hamster wheel- my Es love them!
They do love to check out the shells, even if they rarely change.
Straws are VERY sensitive ~ don’t recommend for new owners- they are also more docile of the species. I have 4; and I do have a small E in with them (only temporarily though). They thrive with UVB, and swim regularly in the msw (well, mine do).
Hope that helps!

Everything that GB has said, I second all of it!
I don't use a hamster wheel in my tank because my crabs don't seem to be that type, they climb more than they walk.

Hermit crabs walk miles in the wild each day! When attempting a wheel for the first time, it can take a few days to a week before they use it. Yes, they do love to climb as well though!stellaplusrocky wrote:Everything that GB has said, I second all of it!

Thanks for the advice. So straws does get along with Es that's good. I was thinking of getting two indos. I'm not a new crab owner I'm just new with hermies other than purple ps and Es my tank does have a uvb light & 10 inch substrate. So they should be fine
