Any bulb recommendations for nighttime viewing?
Any bulb recommendations for nighttime viewing?
I wanted to get a moonlight bulb so we can occasionally see the crabs at night WITHOUT adding a ton of heat (our temps are just fine).
Has anyone used/or do you recommend the Exo Terra incandescents (the elongated kind, not the round bulb)?

I'm trying to decide on wattage. Seems like the 15w wouldn't make a dent in a 29 gallon; too dim. I'm thinking 25watt?
Or is there something else you would recommend for night time viewing that's better, that won't bother the crabs?

I use the exo terra moon. It is literally a mini moon. It hangs on the ceiling of my crab room. It is made for the inside of reptile tanks though. I’m on my phone, unable to post a link. I purchased it from Amazon. I want to say it was around $17... I love it.

How long will you be viewing them at night? I use a 40w red bulb. I turn it on when I want to get a peek at what they're doing. Then turn it off.itsme143 wrote:I wanted to get a moonlight bulb so we can occasionally see the crabs at night WITHOUT adding a ton of heat (our temps are just fine).

Re: Any bulb recommendations for nighttime viewing?
I personally recommend anything that is darker pitched than what is on in the day.
My tank is in my closet, so I don't view durning the night, which means I turn it completely off.
I would like to do a red light some day.

Thanks all.
I decided to try this LED one. Going with the small because my 29 gallon is not 2 ft tall and I only want the bare minimum of light just to see a bit what they are up to before we go to bed.
https://www.amazon.com/Exo-Terra-PT2335 ... B00JDRPM4A
It doesn't generate heat and seems to be less bright than the moon light. Seems 50/50 on the reviews; somewhat prone to mechanical failures and needs to be replaced by manufacturer if so. But when it works, people love it.

Yep, I saw this, thanks! But even this looks pretty bright. I'm going to try the LED one and see what happens but if it doesn't work then this is definitely my fallback!GotButterflies wrote:Hello
