Springtime! (Picture heavy)

Post by Moonlightdreams » Mon Mar 26, 2018 5:01 pm

It's springtime, and you know what that means!

Flowers. ;)

I have a bunch of flowers that grow in my backyard every spring, and they're everywhere. They're quite pretty, and I think they're violets, but I'm not totally sure. Can someone with plant knowledge help me identify them? They come in a fairly wide variety of colours - white, dark purple, and light purple. I've got a wide range of pictures to look at, so hopefully someone can help me make sure they're safe.

Also, not totally sure what these are. If someone could help me identify them, that would be awesome.

These are all a little fuzzy, sorry. They were clear when I took them, but sending them via Messenger affected the quality. (Let me know if you can't view them.)

Also, I'm looking into growing some plants. (I am notorious for killing all of my plant attempts.) What would be some good plants that my crab babies could enjoy? :D I'm not planting them inside the tank, so no worries about them destroying them before they sprout. Are there any fruits/vegetables/flowers/herbs/etc that would do good in fairly small pots?

Thanks. :D

Yes, they are wild violets. The white ones are sweet violets. Both edible and the crabs like them!

The other one is Hairy Bittercress. I had bad luck around the time of trying a food trial with this so I have steered clear out of an abundance of caution. My yard is a sea of this in spring!

Patio tomatoes do great in pots, as do some varieties of pepper. :)

Good to know, thanks! :D I was hoping to get some flowers as well, or maybe herbs, but I'll look into those! Peanut is going to be having a colourful feast tonight! Dandelions and violets, oh my!

All annual flowers and herbs will do great in pots! It just depends on what you like and want to grow for the crabs.

I'm up for trying anything! My thumb is not exactly green, so I may not even be able to grow anything. :P They'll be small pots, though, since I don't have a lot of room.

Goodbye my little E. See you soon.
Bye Fred. You lasted almost 4 years with me. Hope you're with my E now! See you soon Reeba as well. I can't believe I lost you only after a month.

Mine LOVE violets. I pick a bunch every spring and dry them to serve the rest of the year. (It always looks like SO MUCH...and then they shrivel down to nearly nothing.) The leaves are edible, too, but mine don't go quite as crazy for them.

Those and pansies! So much work for that teeny tiny little pile of dried. Image

I can't anymore. Darn technology!

Oh, my gosh, I know. I dried a violet the other day and went, "Seriously? This is it?" I'm going out today to pick a bundle of dandelions and violets, so I'll have more now. :D

Did you link directly from Facebook? The address they give for images changes constantly to prevent hotlinking (embedding inages).

Facebook Messenger, yeah. Figures! It's where I have most of my pictures. If only you could upload images directly here. :P

The same happened with my thread, but I can view it on anything else than a phone
