Popsicle sticks?
Popsicle sticks?
Hey!
So I've been looking for a type of wood/netting to make a second level to my 15 gal. Unfortunately, my search hasnt been great.
I've heard of reptile rocks that you stick to the side of the tank, but they're pretty expensive.
I was wondering if generic popsicle sticks would be good in the tank? Can the hermies be near it?
If so, what glue should I use?
Thanks!

Re: Popsicle sticks?
For my second level, I grabbed a deep basket from dollar tree, flipped it upside down, wrapped it in safe burlap, and cut a hole for a door. It gave them a giant hide and something to climb and hang out on.
Also check Amazon. Those reptile rocks and turtle docks are cheaper there than in petco/petsmart. I found a large one for half the price.
I tried to do a 2nd level with popsicle sticks, but it fell apart. I've seen some successful ones though. But don't use hot glue for sure. With the heat and humidity, you'll get about 2 maybe 3 days before it falls apart. Haha

Thank you! I don't do DIY much so I have absolutely no idea where to start.

Re: Popsicle sticks?
I LOVE DIY! I did a lot of diy stuff in my tank. We have a strict budget during this save-money-to-buy-a-house phase of life. Haha it really helped get lots of fun stuff for the crabs but also not spend a ton.

Re: Popsicle sticks?
I used popsicle sticks in my tank. They've been in there for about a week and seem to be holding up. Maui doesn't seem to mind! I'll post a pic tomorrow!

Thanks! He didn't have a second level when I got him, and I had just learned how to make a popsicle stick bridge, so the timing worked out well.

I used a long piece of bamboo I picked up from the hardware store for a few dollars and cut pieces to the length I needed. You can usually find them in the gardening section.

I made the bridge by weaving twine around the ends of the popsicle sticks to link them together (see pic).Hermiehomes4Gretchen wrote: How did you make this? it's amazing
I made 2 platforms by gluing more popsicle sticks together. I bought a long bamboo pole at Menards and cut it into short pieces, which I used as the legs of the platforms. Finally, I stretched the bridge between the platforms and tied them on. Some cholla and craft mesh to get up there and it was all set!
