The heaters don't look great but they are the easiest in terms of constant temp and humidity retention. Heat lamps can tank humidity levels and a dimmer is a must so the tank won't overheat. I used to have nothing but heat lamps but they were such a pain I swapped to UTHs and have never once regretted it.

Most of us would recommend this for your tank: https://beanfarm.com/collections/heatin ... 4905301705

Yeah, I agree. I trust this site completely. I won't name any Facebook groups to bash them, but one gave this lady new to crabbing some advice and it basically would have killed her crabs. I tried to chime in and give "In my experience" advice without saying "this admin is wrong" but I ended up getting attacked with comments from other admins about "when one admin gives advice, no one else should give any advice. Just welcome them to the group and leave it alone." So I stopped commenting completely but about 10 minutes later I noticed I was deleted from the group.
I have no hard feelings, rules are rules. I just felt like it was a terrible way to handle the situation. But like I said, rules are rules. I just stick to the HCA from now on Image

I just joined Facebook yesterday actually, hoping to connect with more hermit crab owners. I have given up on trying to comment because I was immediately told that I was totally wrong, even though I made sure to state my inexperience and how unsure I was. I was just trying to help with some info I have heard before, but I was not treated kindly at all. There wasn't any like, "Oh, well I personally wouldn't suggest that." I wasn't even responded to directly! I just felt that the admins were being rather hostile. I know my advice isn't always the best, and I made sure to state that in all my comments. The way I was talked to (or rather, talked over), was just rude! Sorry for the rant lol. I don't think Facebook is for me. This site gives me the best info anyway. I've learned a lot, and I'm learning more every day. I've had hermits since I was seven or eight, and though I wish I hadn't got them (After learning about the industry, I feel so guilty. I know now that hermits are not good pets for kids, and I try to adopt hermits whenever possible), I love that HCA allows me to give them the best possible experience. Everyone here is polite, and has guided me to better alternatives instead of being hostile and unkind to me when I mess up. I'm so grateful I found HCA, I think my hermit crabs are very grateful too. : )

Edit: Thank y'all for the heating suggestions! ^w^
Proud crabber since 2009! I am so glad I found this site, I have learned so much about hermit crabs since joining. They are so much happier and healthier now! Thank you HCA!

Amen!!!
I know my babies are grateful I found this forum! They went from a small tote with no lid, blue calci sand, pellet food and a small shell of tap water to a 55 gallon tank with 13 inches of substrate (eco earth and playsand) with a hamster wheel and deep pools with bubblers and plenty of branches to climb. Those brats are SPOILED now! So spoiled that I'll have to dig them up so we can move since they want to molt for months on end. Haha without this place my crabs would have died from horrible conditions in those painted shells. Bless this place!

I agree, and am going to leave that group.... I had a crab who got stuck coming up form a molt, and was NAKED for more than 10 hours before someone finally responded. And it was the person who started the group and she said that no, that wouldn't happen. That the shell, which was still in the borrow hole was shell jacked. Rolled eyes, looked up info online, from this group and also from https://www.thesprucepets.com
I was also told my tank is way too small for 2 small purple pincers. I'm stinking with the group that Christa Wilkin from https://www.hermit-crabs.com
suggests. The advice here, has never sent me in the wrong way or has never made me feel like a bad pet owner. Thank you to everyone here on HCA you are awesome people.
