stressing crabs

Post by bubblegumsweat » Thu Dec 27, 2018 1:37 am

Honestly I sucked at hermit crab care because I impulse bought them at the beach a year and a half ago and for a while i didn't have money to get proper stuff so they didn't have good humidity or temperature. SO basically my hermit crabs hate me but recently I got a job and spent over 500 on a new tank and everything. I'm only 16 so i didn't have much control over the stuff I bought until i got my own money. anyways because they hate me they hide when they see me because i stressed them out and I'm wondering if things will ever change now that i have the proper care for them.

Don't beat yourself up over it. The point is yoy're doing right by them now. They're prey animsls and will always hide when you come near them. That's just their nature. How big is your new tank? How deep is the substrate? Do you have digital gauges?

Aww, they don’t hate you. You can’t be doing too bad if they’re still alive. :)

Most of my crabs hate me too then. It's just their natural instinct. Ever since I got mine they have been in proper care. The one guy as soon as he sees me usually tucks in his shell, falls, then runs backward to hide. I also have some crabs that won't budge if I redecorate or change a food dish in front of them. They all have their own demeanor and personalities. Just give them their space and if they don't feel threatened they may come around. It is nothing you did.

Sonny doesn't mind me - if I sit still and quiet, in front of the tank for a while, he will go about his business like I'm not there.
Cher apparently does hate me though - she runs and hides and won't do anything while I am watching!
