Re: I guess its offical... an upgrade?
WOW...WOW...WOW!!!! AWESOME job!!! It took me so long to look over this thread that I was logged out of the HCA!!! Absolutely incredible!!! I bet your crabbies are so happy!! Your hard work paid off!! Gorgeous crabitat!!!
The bristle worms here are purple and orange. They killed my meglopa. :/ I tried my best to get rid of the ones I have, but they keep popping up in my little tank I have. They are considered a nuisance in reef tanks.

(I know its a shocker that I actually managed to complete it!)
I'm sorry to hear about your megalopa. But yeah, my bristleworms are similar in colouration - just the white balance must be out I guess.
The thing is, once you have one its very hard to get rid of them all. Consider in the future using cured live rock or artificial live rock (which will definitely contain no hitchhikers!) Most reefers say that in small populations, they are ok... Regardless, I don't plan on adding anything anytime soon - corals, fish and inverts - and just letting the system develop a little more. I do plan on getting some sand from an established tank to help seed the substrate a little bit, as well as get some algae for nutrient export. But that about it for the meantime.

Re: I guess its offical... an upgrade?
I was absent from here for about a month so that gave you plenty of time! LOL! You did an excellent job!!!!
I have a beautiful piece of live rock that I have had for a couple of years. Then, I purchased some algae (chaeto) for my babies and it lots of stuff came in on that. I even had some anenome come in on them. The bristle worms constantly breed in my tank. I try to pull them out because they grow constantly. Lots of little shrimp like creatures, snails too. I moved them all to a 5 gallon tank and they are thriving. I keep a UVB light on them during the day and do a 25% water change once a week when I change the water. IDK. It's the prettiest piece of live rock I've seen. I've had a hard time parting with it.

What kind of mesh did you make your freshwater ramp out of? I went to the hardware store to try to find something like that for my pools and couldn't find anything even remotely suitable.

It's one of those mesh basket storage container - like a tote, but no lid and full of holes! - that I cut out, and bent into a ramp shape.ROSIEonFIRE wrote:What kind of mesh did you make your freshwater ramp out of? Could use eggcrate ziptied together to create something similar.

Dont worry. Aussie hardware stores aren't any better. I had to go to a plastic manufacturer to get my eggcrate, which services much of greater metropolitan Melbourne.

I got my egg crate at Lowes. It is also called light diffusers too. It was back in the ceiling tile section. a 24" X 48" piece was around $16.
Here is a link for it at Lowes.

Re: I guess its offical... an upgrade?
Thanks motorcrab! Good to know for when I eventually upgrade my tank. I think I'm gonna do some crate construction at that time, just seems like a much easier/sturdier way to build shelves and ledges than my current set up. I ended up getting a small piece of gutter cover? It's this very stiff plasticy grate material. I just made my new nesting pools today actually, I think they came pretty good. I hope my crabs feel more comfortable using them but I may never know for certain if they ever go in all the way.Motörcrab wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 4:42 pmI got my egg crate at Lowes. I was curious as to how your set up has been working out since it has been up and running for several months now. No news is good news I'm assuming.
