You've got to wonder when you see behaviors like that of Brutus if these animals are capable of feeling the effects of the trauma that they must have suffered being captured from the wild and possibly held in poor conditions before being sold. Not denegrating the people who now own the crabs because goodness knows that pretty much everyone on this forum has spent oodles of money making sure that their hermies are happy and healthy, myself included, but it does make me glad that some crabbers are having success with breeding in captivity so that we can enjoy these pets without having to take them out of the wild. Maybe if enough people go through the trial and error and find out the right conditions for the best success, breeding them in captivity will become easier and catch on. That would make me extremely happy.

Wouldn't that be wonderful? That would be fantastic! Then also maybe the profits at the greedy pet stores go down and they stop ordering them from those heartless, greedy suppliers. We could take back control and can monitor whos hands they end up in. We can have big hopes for all the hermit crabs.aslansgirl89 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 10:48 pmYou've got to wonder when you see behaviors like that of Brutus if these animals are capable of feeling the effects of the trauma that they must have suffered being captured from the wild and possibly held in poor conditions before being sold. I've wondered the same thing about the trauma they've been through. I have to stop my mind from feeling sorry for the ones I have and realize they are ok now. Not as good as they could be in their own natural environment of course but they seem happy and healthy so I just do my best to keep doing my best for them.
As I watch the ventures and play of these little guys in the crabitate, I've noticed that their capability to memorize certain layouts in the tank and objects are very impressive. I think they are much smarter than we humans give them credit for
