Any Use for Whole Eaten Oyster Shells?

Post by DinkDonk » Wed Nov 13, 2019 10:19 pm

Hi everyone,

Is there a use for eating oyster shells? My family has purchased these oysters from Safeway, and all we did was that we steamed oysters, and we ate the oyster inside. Is there a use for this shells? can I grind these up for calcium supplements for hermit crabs or use them as water or food dishes? Thanks!

Yep, I think they'll be fine to use. If the oyster was seasoned, I'd give it a good wash/scrub before offering to the crabs.

Ahh, I figured! The oysters not seasoned luckily, and I I'm probably going to switch around calcium supplements with oyster shells, egg shells, and cuttlebone for my little guys soon! Thank you for your help Auss!
