Feeding grains and oils

Post by amhet88 » Sat Nov 30, 2019 5:51 pm

I have read that grains and oils are a good part of a hermit crab's nutrition, but I was wondering how best to prepare them. Would it be ok to put olive oil, coconut oil, etc, as is in the food dish or should they be mixed with another food item to make the oil safer to eat? Also, should grains such as quinoa and amaranth be cooked or they ok to be fed raw? Thanks!

For oils, they can be mixed or simply added in. You may find that some oils, they like it mixed with other foods, abd for others, they are happy to eat as is.

For grains, I tend to offer cooked, simpyl cause its hpw I eat them. But you may find that your crabs enjoy it raw, so once again, experiment and see what works.

I have given oats, quinoa, rice, etc as both raw and cooked. Mine like their rice vooked but their oats raw. Not fans of quinoa tho, LOL. They also like chia sees better than hemp hearts.
