Topper Limit

It’s happening.... again. I find that time passes and you get itchy with your crabitat. I just changed out their wheel for the saucer and rearranged a little and they are having a BALL.

This makes me so happy.... I currently have an exo terra topper over the 65g. I’d like to add to their home....

I’m wondering if I should just plan for a higher/wider topper or can it just be added to? I didn’t modify it, just flipped it upside down but securing another or adding weight concerns me - as well as functionality. I’d definitely need an access door because reaching in with food and water changes will be challenging.

Any ideas?

So you want to add another topper to the left side or a topper on top of your existing topper?

O would probably add a topper on the left. You can get creative securing the tops of the two toppers together with duct tape. The main thing would be not cutting off easy access to the thing things you need to get to all the time, for maintenance. Shells, food dishes, wheels if they knock them over, waters and gauges. A small stepstool may help you reach in easier too.

For safety I was debating on just getting a much taller exo for the other side.

How do people do non exo toppers where they remove the bottoms? That’s a serious reach in depth. I already use a step stool lol

And getting a shorter base (which I regret not doing) would be beyond a project with 10” of sub to remove.

Do people stack toppers? I imagine they aren’t too heavy to add to the overall stress of the base since it’s usually for light climbing accessories.

I never heard of stacking topper. Most people just do like you and use them up side down. I'm not sure how much the base does structurally for terrariums.

I often wondered the same thing about using another tank on top. I would think you would keep everything on one side so you can change stuff easily. Maybe remove the other tank one a month or something.

I have had my eye on a Medium/xl exo Terra terrarium for a while now. It's is 24L x 18W x 36T. That would give some serious climbing area and lots of decorating options! I

'm still unsure about how my humidity would change with a topper. I struggle in the winter to maintain a steady 80%. It's usually 76-80%. I try to keep it higher because of my straws. It will take some planning to get it just right.
