My pet sand hatched!

Post by Brio444 » Wed Apr 15, 2020 8:16 am

FINALLY!

I was down to one crab (my biggest) and then she abandoned me last week for the Netherworld of Sand. I have not seen the others since Januaryish? Once in a while I’ll see a peek of red or purple or shell near the glass or hear the scritch of slightly moving sand.

Yesterday someone left a hole! Sloppy! And today, I found Tiny, with suspiciously hairy Quarantine-style legs, and sharp little nails way up behind the coconut mat backing. Welcome back, sir! Now he’s wondering where the heck everyone went.

Though, weirdly, It seems he won’t have long to wait. there’s another fresh hole today and I spy another shell down there. On the front of the glass, one red pincher I actually thought was a goner (hadn’t moved in a month!) suddenly turned into a crab two days ago, and he’s (she? Don’t know yet, went down before I found out) is working their way up to the surface. My Pet Sand is hatching!

Assuming they are all fresh molters, do I need to do anything special with 2-3 coming up at once? Any special supplements, treats, or things to watch out for? These three are two of the smallest and one small. (I can see 2 of the bigger ones in holes on the back, and my big girl who just went down is hidden.)

Yay for hatching sand! LOL!

Be sure they have plenty of calcium, mine always seem to destroy the cuttlebone when they come up.

Haha that's great! Tiny in the picture is super cute ;D Quick question, how do you attach a picture? I've been trying to and it never seems to work.

I agree with Curly-- just make sure to add lots of calcium! And your crabbie is very cute! And avamin, you'll have to download an app Tapatalk to add pictures! :D
