Anyone ever fed coconut flour? I didn't see it on the safe or unsafe lists. It says it's just defatted coconut. Can't imagine it is harmful, put some in the food dish tonight...

It’s the same as coconut, just defatted, dried, and milled into a powder.

How about taro root?

I would cook it first to neutralize the calcium oxalate, which may be toxic.

I'm not sure about this one, but what about tapioca flour? It's the flour that's used for tapioca pearls (boba). Here's the kind I have at home:

I see that some people that make hermit crab food use them (MT Pet emporium) so I'm guessing they are able to be fed to hermit crabs....right?

Tapioca is made from the cassava root. It's essentially a starch that is used as a thickening agent.

I honestly don't know the answer on this one. I am always the one that plays better safe than sorry and says no. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this...

Cassava does have enough cyanide to be toxic to humans, but it is removed by a combination of grinding, soaking, and toasting.

Tapioca is even more heavily processed since it’s starch that has been extracted. If anything it’s almost pure starch, so while it’s most likely safe I wouldn’t use it as a primary carbohydrate since it lacks the vitamins and minerals found in less processed tubers and grains.

They probably are so long as they haven't been sprayed with pesticides. Dahlias are in family Asteraceae with dandelions, nettles, and marigolds.

Does anyone know if green onions are safe? I couldn’t find them on the lists.

I read in another post once that green onions are actually in the allium family, which a lot of crab owners are cautious of because arthropods are not known to eat these. I would stay away from them probably.
