Nice to meet everyone!

Post by Becca24 » Thu Oct 29, 2020 3:46 pm

Hi, my name is Becca and I have been a crabber for about 2 weeks now. Right now, I’m having the issue of finding a safe food. I’m currently feeding them different fresh fruits, veggies, and protein each day. I am looking at something to help replace their commercial food, but I would still feed them fresh food. Would this work for them and be safe?

Thank you for any help and I’m really glad there is a community like you guys :)

Little back story! My family went to the beach and brought me back 4 hermit crabs in painted shells. Worse yet, they were in the tiny plastic cage you get at beach stores :( I went to work for hours researching the right environment, food, humidity, Ect. The next day I went out and got them a big tank, safe substrate, heater.. all the good stuff.

Some great food is food from Etsy. My crabs love it. https://www.etsy.com/shop/HermitGrub?re ... =734531628
This shop has great food. I reccomend greensand- it's very important to their diet.
Here are links to other great bundles and deals.

Hi Becca. I've been using the same mix for a bit since all of the ingredients are on the safe foods list. I don't think by itself it's enough, but it's a good supplement to help out with a busy schedule. I'd recommend reading the food guides... Just go under crab care > food and check out the stickied posts

I have the whole list of what they can eat and constantly giving them new fruits, veggies veggies and meat daily. I just wanted to add little more to their diet. And thank you for being so nice to me! :)

Welcome!
Just a suggestion, try freeze dried mealworms. I crunch them up and my crabbies LOVE them. I buy a big 1-2 lb bag, usually off of Amazon. I make my own birdseed mix to feed the wild birds, and add the mealworms to that. And I still have plenty for my crabs. It's much cheaper to buy in bulk too.
