Species?

Post by CrabbyLover77 » Fri Oct 30, 2020 9:02 pm

I'll hopefully be adopting a new crabby next weekend, and just got a couple of pics from the current owner. I love all crabbies, but I'm very excited because this is def not a PP. I don't have a clear shot of the claw, so I was hoping for some identification help.
I figured it's an E or a Ruggie. I'm leaning toward Ruggie with the crazy hairy legs he's got going on.
Thanks!ImageImage

I'm leaning more towards E with the antenna colors, but the photos are really nondescript. When you get him, get a few pictures at different angles of his claw while it's closed up in the shell. Also try to get a picture of his eyes alert and head on () (). Natural lighting would help, too!

Edit: Es usually have thick striping, and Ruggies usually have a shield leg that is a different color. This guy is just.... monotone.

He is. He follows around all the bigger crabs and cuddles with him.

Thanks so much! I'll be sure to get those pics to help with identification and post them here. Image

Yeah! See that thick shading on all the l8mbs, like someone went too heavy with the contouring makeup? That is an E trait that nearly all have in some color.

I can def notice that on Jonathan's Cocoa. Image That's pretty neat!
I do have about 10" of substrate in my tank, so if the newbie turns out to be an E, he'll have some digging room. Image

I agree with above, its an E to me. Reggie's tend to have slightly different shape (judging by pics I've seen on both species).
