Pure ecoearth for substrate?
Pure ecoearth for substrate?
Okay so I know the general rule is to do 5:1 ratio of play sand to eco earth. However, I've also been reading that is is a guide, but not a hard-and-fast rule and some experienced crabbers have done mostly eco earth. I have a quarantine tank right now with alot more eco earth than playsand because I ran out of playsand.....is it harmful for crabs??

No, coconut fiber is not harmful. If it was we wouldn’t use it. Just keep in mind that it may dry out faster.

Definitely not harmful. If I was going to estimate the ratio in my current set-up, it very well could be 5:1 - but with EcoEarth being the 5 parts and sand being 1 part. My only qualms with being primarily EE is that it does seem to dry out more quickly than the sand. And seems a bit more prone to molding. But is a very viable sub choice in any ratio.

It's also a bit easier to flood, because everything tends to sink right to the bottom and overwet EE will rot from the bottom up. Just fussy to use, but definitely not harmful!
