Blackberry is STILL down.

Post by Pumpkincrab » Thu Dec 10, 2020 9:22 pm

It's been exactly 1 month.
Blackberry is an extra small crab, and she has been down since 11/10/20.
I'm getting very worried, and yes, she is still down- no sight of her at all. Should I be worried?

I wouldn’t. The one-month mark is a bit long but not necessarily a sign of disaster.

I had a small crab go down at the end of September and he just resurfaced today. Thought for sure he was dead. My hypothesis is he buried to distress and then molted. It's super stressful imo, when you don't know what's going on down there. I was going to try and dig his corpse out this weekend, so relieved he made an appearance. Hopefully your little one is just taking their time and will resurface soon.

I’ve left crabs that died under the sub with no ill effects. My other crabs finally exposed the shell and there was nothing left but the shell. My opinion is to never disturb them unless you absolutely have to.

Have faith! Try not to stress bc there’s really nothing you can do but wait and you have to trust in her little crab instincts! Sending positive vibes that she comes up happy and healthy for you soon .

Yesterday I saw Pumpkin dig down directly to where Blackberry was buried. Straight down to her. At this point I had no hope for her being alive. So I carefully dug her up expecting a body... and she was alive n' kicking! She was actually coming up when I dug her up. Her colors are gorgeous, and I found a few remnants of a molt, but she ate most of it! I felt horrible for digging her up but at least she was done molting and completely fine. She took a dip in the pool, changed out of her tiny shell and ate some food! Her legs are dark purple and red and same with her claw. I'll post photos soon!

Thank you!
Yesterday morning she dug down again, but came up again this afternoon. Her antennae were moving a whole lot and she explored! She took a sip of water and a nibble of food, and walked around! <3 I'm so happy she's back!!!

Oh congratulations! So happy digging her up didn’t harm her and she was already done with molt! She was good the whole time, just chillin in her little hole. Clearly Pumpkin was ready to see Blackberry again! Lol
