Suspended water pools to save floor space?
Suspended water pools to save floor space?
Happy New Years! I hope this year brings good things to all of you :)
Anyway, in an effort to offer as much floor space to the crabs as possible, I have considered making suspended water pools using suction cups to stick them to the walls of my tank. Ramps or ladders made of mesh and fake plants will lead up to the water dishes so that the crabs can easily access them.
Would this be a good idea? Or would it be better to just bury the water pools in the sand?
I hope this makes sense lol

Sounds like a super cool idea, but I’d personally be worried about them falling (I don’t fully trust suction cups, lol)...feel like it may be more of a flood risk. Do you have anything you could use as a sturdy second level that would allow the crabs to still crawl around underneath...while having the pools on something more sturdy? Just an idea! If you end up suspending them somehow though, I’d love to see a picture!

Not sure how big your tank is, but in my 55 gal, I use a plastic riser I bought off of Amazon (they actually came in a set of 3 different sizes, and I have all 3 in the tank). The crabbies we're driving me crazy throwing sand in their salt pool (the pool with the blue mesh), so I moved their shell shop down on the sand and the pool on the top of the riser. The fresh pool is under the riser. On the side you can't see, I have craft mesh and cholla wood attached for them to climb up on. Then I put a thick fake plant next to the salt pool to help boost them up to the ledge if needed. It's been working great so far. No sandy dumps in the salt pool anymore lol!

You're absolutely right about the suction cups now that I think about it lol, especially for something as heavy as a container of water. Don't want to get any crabs hurt :')crabbycasey wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 9:51 amSounds like a super cool idea, but I’d personally be worried about them falling (I don’t fully trust suction cups, lol)...feel like it may be more of a flood risk. I've got a 40g. Your plastic riser idea is excellent! And it looks lovely too!! My biggest worry was about the crabs not knowing how to access their water, so it's great to hear that they know how to get to it. I'll see what kind of risers I can find :)CrabbyLover77 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 2:00 pmNot sure how big your tank is, but in my 55 gal, I use a plastic riser I bought off of Amazon (they actually came in a set of 3 different sizes, and I have all 3 in the tank). At first I had a hideout up there, then I switched it to a shell shop. They loved hanging out in both. So I figured they'd explore up there to find their water too, and they did.
Here's the link to the risers I bought. Looks like there's only one set left.

Re: Suspended water pools to save floor space?
Hey! Sorry for taking a while, but here's what I ended up doing :)
I got a plastic drying dish rack from Daiso and chucked my water dishes and shells on top :)
Please note that there aren't any crabs in this tank yet, I'm still getting it prepped. Only just got a growth light too, which is why my plants look kinda... unwell.
Thank you for all your tips, they really helped out :)

I would be worried about spills and flooding if they fell over. But I would say as long as you have something that can catch the water in such a case, go for it!!! It def looks cool!

Looks great! It will help keep massive dumps of sand out of your pools too lol.TeaDragon wrote:Hey! Sorry for taking a while, but here's what I ended up doing
