Food storage and organization

Post by hermitsrus1966 » Tue Jan 05, 2021 9:57 pm

I am wondering how everyone organizes their food and other crab supplies? Can I see pictures? I really want to organize my foods to calcium, protein, etc. This way I can food prep so much easier than going through my 20 some packets of food and mixes. I am just wondering if anyone has any tips and how they store there food. Thank you in advance!

I keep mine in small ziploc bags. I divide them in 3's and use tiny clothes pins to keep those 3's together. I keep those inside a plastic container in 2 rows. I put the one I use on the bottom and that way they rotate. I keep the jars of things on top, only have 3 little jars so it hasn't been a problem. I triple bag small slivers of meat and keep those in the freezer. Put the used one on top and get whatever is on the bottom next time. Right now I think I have turkey liver and some chicken, need to make some pork so I can cut some slivers of that. Mine aren't to big on beef.

I forgot, I also keep a tiny pair of scissors to cut things into smaller pieces and a set of tiny measuring spoons. Smigeon, dash and pinch.

I got to the point where everything I had went into a 2.5 gallon ziploc bag that I store in the freezer so it stays fresh. I pull a bit of the mix out every few weeks so it's by the tank for dinner.

I have great little storage containers that came with the crabs I adopted and they make it super easy for organizing (something I love to do, lol)! I keep all their dry food in those and use these cool little wooden spoons for the Etsy food. Then they have their own door shelf in the fridge for cold stuff! Random things like snake skin, leaves and cuttlebone are labeled and in plastic baggies. Sweet treats like honey and peanut butter are in tiny plastic containers (I think they are made for pills) and I have egg shells in an old spice shaker!

Here’s some pics...

If you spotted the tiny tea steeper, I use it as a spot cleaning pooper scooper, lol!

I have those exact plastic containers! I am going to Walmart today with my mom and I will see about getting some jars or plastic bins. I have 14 crabs and I have two order off of Etsy coming in the mail (food for the crabs) and I got a 90 dollar food haul this Monday on Etsy so I really need extra storage with all this food. I also planning on picking up more food from walmart like nuts and seeds as well as stuff to dehydrate for them. Also the tea pooper scooper is brilliant! I wanna get snake skin for the crabs one day but I always forget to.

I just might, lol. I only have what I have because I am not old enough to pay bills and I got a summer job and dedicated that money to the crabs lol. Oh, and I am homeschooled so its just easier in general. My mom loves animals and we have our own hobby farm so she helps out quite a bit too.

This year 2021 I really want to get a strawberry and ecudorian baby from Mary Akers. I have been wanting exotics for about a year and a half and have had no luck finding them. I just am worried that her baby PPs, perlatus, etc wont be separated so I might end up with PPs. I already have some shells for them. I will eventually have to get a 20 gallon and all that jazz to set up a separate crabitat for them.

That’s a great idea to use the tea steeper as a surface cleaner!! We all know they like to Image all over everything and in the most inconvenient places! Lmao!

Lol, thanks! All the crab pooper scoopers seemed so big and with all the decor and greenery I have in my tank, they were too cumbersome. Walked by the tea steeper in the kitchen section of Walmart and the rest is history, lol. It works perfectly!

Oh, I thought I would chime in and say that I got some storage bins for the crabs food. Its separated into sweets (crabby granola etc), seafood (purple seaweed, shrimp etc), protein (all beef, chicken etc) veggies\fruit (nuts, veggies, etc), supplements (worm castings, greensand, egg shell, etc), and store bought products that don't fit in the small bins, (flax seed, chia seeds, spray millet for birds, etc).
