Type of Tank
Type of Tank
I'm looking to update my 10gal tank to a larger size and I was looking for opinions on the type of tank I should purchase. The terrarium type tanks look really nice with the doors that open in the front but I'm not sure if that is good for humidity or if they are made deep enough for sand. Any info on if this type of tank works or if it's better to stick with a standard fishtank would be great. Thanks!!
Re: Type of Tank
An aquarium/ fish tank along with a glass lid is the best way to go in my opinion. The glass lid will keep in heat and humidity and might not even have to water your tank.
Yes you can do like a exo - terra but regular aquariums are a lot cheaper and easier. I believe the exo - terras have like a screen mesh lid. You could cover it in plastic wrap to have a similar effect compared to a glass lid. And for the substrate you can slope it. Like make it higher in the back than in the front. It is definitely do able but I would personally choose the regular aquarium. Obviously up to you though!

Re: Type of Tank
Front opening palludariums are deep enough, I believe it's 10 inches to the doors instead of the normal 4 inches. However, price becomes the issue! Front openers are expensive.

I highly recommend checking out sites/apps like Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, or OfferUp for a large tank because the price is pretty high if you were to get a brand new one. My current 40 gal tank is from Facebook marketplace, and it only costed me $40
It was a Truvu tank meant for fish, but the owner said it sprung a leak (not an issue for me, seeing as I’m not filling it with water!)
There are a couple openings in the top for water filters and such, so I made a “lid” with some clear plastic drawer liner material to hold in humidity. You can do this too, it’s quite an affordable way to get a nice tank setup! A good way to find these things are to search for aquariums or reptile tanks. Good luck!
