Thanks Hermielover! If it is flexible, how to you attach it to the tank to use it to hold up something fairly heavy, like a hamster wheel?

I'm late to the party, but I prefer the silent spinners. I have a few jumbo crabs, and I get the medium wheels, and even then, they have no problem walking them. The one jumbo is a brevi - and they walk really tall. I know you already ordered your wheel DragonsFly - but this could be helpful for people who have an issue with space. :) As long as you make the craft mesh come out enough, it will be fine - it's not necessary to get larger wheels.

Sorry I was just recommending a cheap egg crate I just use siliconed hooks at the top of my tank to hold everything so I don’t know how to hang it otherwise. I don’t know if that would work for what you are looking for since it’s quite thin.Image
The mesh at the back is what it looks like.

Thanks, GotButterflies--for those of us just learning about all these, when I look at the pics online, I can't really tell much difference between the Kaytee Comfort Wheel

https://www.chewy.com/kaytee-comfort-sm ... /dp/128989

and the Silent Spinner

https://www.chewy.com/kaytee-silent-spi ... /dp/128959

Can you say what makes the Silent Spinner preferable to the Comfort Wheel?

Also, I'm still struggling with how to get the wheel up and simultaneously stable and able to turn freely; can you explain how you do that in your tanks?

The comfort wheel is more flat and a bit wider. The silent spinner is more "U" shaped on the inside and not quite as wide.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think the silent spinner is made of a harder plastic, similar to the saucers. That may make it a little more difficult to drill for attaching mesh if you choose. You just need to be sure to not press too had and crack the plastic or have the bit walk and slip on you.

Has anyone used the flying saucer type wheel? How does it compare to the more traditional wheel?

We tried the saucers but none of our crabs seemed liked the movement. As soon as they rocked back and forth they were like, "NOPE!", and got off.

I have seen a ton of pictures and videos of crabs in them. It may be a preference as to what they start off with.

I've only used the silent spinners - I like the way they arch, it helps balance the weight of the craft mesh. I haven't had any difficulty drilling them. No cracked wheels.

My crabs love the saucers. I only have them in two of my tanks, but they get used as much as the silent spinners. I have one of those in the tank, and two of the silent spinners in the tank.

I have the size small flying saucer, and my crabs love it! My crabs are fairly little so the small is perfect for them, My crabs figured out how to use it the day I got it in there:) I tried a hamster wheel but none of them seem to like it

With the saucers, do you just set them on the substrate? What size saucer do you use?

I bury the base of the saucer in the sub for larger crabs☺️I would recommend the 7-in wide one for larger crabs

Sorry, follow-up: Do you add any mesh to them or anything, or do the crabs use them just the way the saucer is made?

I just leave the saucers like they come. My crabs don't have any problems spinning them
