Molting

Post by Tpwk.kate » Thu Feb 11, 2021 2:44 am

Hii so I’m really worried because my hermit crab leeroy has been buried for 3 weeks straight and I had a waterbottle isolation thing for him in the tank because I just got a new crab but leeroy surfaced today like just now and he doesn’t look like he molted so now I don’t know what he was doing but this is literally the first time I’ve seen him in 3 weeks

I wouldn’t worry. This is totally normal.
Crabs burry when they molt but also bury for fun.
They are as comfortable underground as they are above.
Also if he is a newer crab he would be buried to destress himself from the new environment.
How are your tank conditions? If it’s too cold or not humid enough crabs will bury themselves.

The temperature stays at 75° or higher and the humidity stays 80%-90% and I’ve had him for almost 2 months

conditions sound good
i wouldn’t worry he’s probably still destressing or maybe lookin for a spot to molt
one of my newer crabs i’ve had for a year was just buried for like 3 weeks but didn’t molt
it’s totally normal :)
