heating help

Post by lopgoat » Sun Feb 21, 2021 7:01 pm

Hello! I need some help on how to heat up the tank because im quite stumped

I have two uths (One that fits the whole length of the back and a small zoomed type on the side, none of them are heating up the substrate)
ive insulated with cardboard and foil, shiny part touching the glass, and I have a paper-covered foam board for a lid to keep the heat/humidity in
I mist regularly and I have moss
I do not have something to gauge the temp/humidity because I dont have the money atm
(im an artist who does art commissions... So I dont get quite enough money sadly lol)

But when I feel inside, its humid but doesnt feel anything near the right temperature.

is there anything im missing?

Without an accurate thermometer and hygrometer to measure the temperature and humidity, there is no way of knowing the conditions inside the tank.
The substrate will always feel cooler than the air temperature, but as long as your air temp is good, the sub will be appropriate.
A digital thermometer/ hygrometer is around 10 dollars. You are going to have to get one, so that you know if anything is missing or if the conditions are in fact good inside your tank.

I use this one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/00325-Indoor ... /847754575

It’s extremely accurate and also gives you highs and lows for both temperature and humidity.

Any gauge can be wrong out of the package, so it's important to double check and calibrate it. It's supee easy! And then you have peace of mind that you're getting proper info.
