Humidity Keeps Dropping

The humidity in my hermit crabs enclosure keeps dropping. I have a 38x18x18 tank. There is plastic wrap on 3/4 of the wire top. Both fresh and salt water pools have a bubbler. I have a humidifier that runs for 30 mins every 1 hour and 30 mins. I also have day and night heat bulbs. I don’t know how to keep the humidity up, anyone know how to help?

I have humidity problems too, and I have been thinking about getting a moss pit, it might work for you too. Or, you could buy a glass lid. Just some ideas .

btw I have a Govee thermometer too, works AMAZINGLY!

i used to have problems until i got a glass lid for my 55 gal before that i used a humidifier to keep its up but now i dont need it
is your sub wet enough?

Did you buy a glass lid or did you make one? I have an exo terra tank so normal lids wouldn’t work.

oh i have a regular aquarium tank but i made my own for my 55 and bought one for my 20

How did you make one? Custom glass exo terra lids are very expensive to buy and I don’t have that much money to spend on a lid.

Moss pit could def help, but I also noticed you said you have 3/4 of top covered with plastic wrap and have a heat lamp...I’m assuming that’s why you have 1/4 left open. Having that open part and a heat lamp could easily be the reason you’re losing humidity. Maybe consider fully wrapping it in plastic wrap and invest in an ultratherm heating pad that you stick to the back of your tank instead of the lamp. I suggest this bc I started out like you and had a hard time with humidity, but this fixed my problem! Good luck!

I do have a heat mat on the side of my tank, but that alone doesn’t keep it warm enough. My hermit crabs are in the corner of my room so without a light is gets dark because my window doesn’t get much sun. The heat lights are 100w I believe.

but heat lamps will definitely drain humidity UTH are usually a better option for that reason and especially having the keep part of the tank uncovered to use a heat lamp will drain humidity

How did you make one? Custom glass exo terra lids are very expensive to buy and I don’t have that much money to spend on a lid.

i ordered custom cut plexiglass from my local glass cutter
i got four pieces (bc my tank has a cent brace) and taped two sets of two pieces together to make two pieces and then you can just lay them on top and flip them open

Yea, I had to also get a lighting strip for their day/night cycle when I made the change, but it’s for light only, no heat. I too had a heating pad on the back when I was using lamp, but it wasn’t a good one and was too small to generate enough heat.

They say to get one as big as the back of the tank above the sub line. I did that with 2 of the 35x6 heat strips from BeanFarm. I have a 40g breeder (36x18x18) and also have one on the side of my tank so they have a warm corner. Unsure of the size and brand you have, but if it’s worth it to you, you could always add more heat pads that way. Just some ideas! I hope you get it all figured out!
