Since you've come to the emergency forum, we know you want a fast answer to your question. In order for us to figure out the problem as quickly as possible, we ask that you answer the following questions as best you can. Some of them may seem odd, but they're all designed to give us the information we need to give you a good solution for your problem. The things in the [ brackets ] are there to make this post easier to read once submitted. Thanks!

1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it?
EE and play and- 7 inches.

2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read?
AcuRite. 80/80 For both

3. Is a heat source used in the tank? If so, what?
2 heat mats, one on the back wall of the tank and the other on the side.

4. What types of water are available (fresh or salt) and how is the water treated (what brands of dechlorinator or salt mix and what ratio is used to mix it)?
Both fresh and salt are available.

5. What kinds of food do you feed and how often is it replaced?
A very wide mixture of foods. I make sure they have protein, calcium, fruits, veggies, fats, leaf litters, ect always available.

6. How long have you had the crab and what species is it, if known?
N/A

7. Has your crab molted, and how long ago did it happen?
N/A

8. What type of housing are the crabs kept in, what size is it and what kind of lid is on the housing?
16 gal tank with a plastic lid. (keeps humidity in extremely well!)

9. How many crabs are in the tank and about how large are they?
6- 2 teeny, 2 small, 2 small-med. I'm upgrading to a 29g shortly.

10. How many extra shells are usually kept in the tank, if any?
20-30 extra shells.

11. Have there been any fumes or chemicals near the crabitat recently?
No.

12. How often do you clean the tank and how?
Every few days, I remove food and give fresh. Change waters. Other than that, I don't do deep cleans unless nescessary.

13. Are sponges used in the water dish? If so, how are they cleaned?
No.

14. Has anything new been added to your crabitat recently?
Nope.

15. Is there any other information you would like to share that might be helpful (anything that is regularly part of your crab care, playtime, bathing, etc.)?
No.

16. Please describe the emergency situation in detail.
A few months ago I purchased craft moss from Dollar Tree (I know, I know... I had no idea then.) I did take it out the same day feeling something was off. But to this day I have small teeny flakes of it in mu substrate, I've tried taking them out.
I currently have 2 crabs down. I could do a full sub change if needed.

Thoughts? Should I give new sub? Or leave it?
Thanks

Personally I don’t think a few scattered flecks are enough to justify a full substrate change.

also a 29 gallon is still not enough for 6 crabs. you need at least 60 gallons. 10 gallons per crab at least

I am not able to currently afford a 60 gallon at the moment.
I will try to split the crabs between the tote and the tank when I move.

i don’t think you need a 60 gallon for how small your crabs are. looking at crab per tank guidelines a 30 gal can hold 8 medium crabs. pumpkincrab wants to put 6 in a 29 gallon. and only 2 are close to being mediums.
correct me if i’m wrong but i think they will be fine for now with 29 gallons

The ten gallons per crab rule is a broad and overly conservative generalization.
