White Basmati Rice

Post by HermitCrabCHICA » Fri Jun 18, 2021 3:37 pm

I am trying to figure out what my picky hermit crabs like. Does anyone have any opinion on white rice? Cooked or uncooked? Do hermit crabs like it? Is it good for them? I need your advice!

I've given mine cooked rice. I can't say it is a favorite, but if it is organic, I don't see how it could hurt them. Just to be sure, I looked at the "Safe Foods List" and the "Unsafe and Unpopular Foods List." Rice is not on either list, so I'd say try it and see what they think. If it is uncooked, you might want to crush it to help them get started. If it's cooked, just give them a little and see if they eat it.

Remember that generally speaking (unless they are preparing to molt), they eat very, very little, so sometimes it is hard to see if they have eaten something or not. If you are unsure whether they are interacting at all with a given food, you can try taking a picture of it after you put it in the tank, then comparing what it looks like in the morning. If it has changed, they've at least done something with it. Best wishes!
