Tank Upgrade w/ molders
Tank Upgrade w/ molders
OK so I got 2 new crabs which makes 4 small crabs total. I'm upgrading from a 10 gal to a 20 gal tall. I've had Bumpy and Toro for about 6 months and my son wanted 2 more when we went on vacation, therefore we got Biggin and Lil' Blue. When we got home Bumpy had buried himself, which I had noticed him digging around and eating more than usual before we left. When I put the new 2 in the tank Biggin buried himself, I figure distressing. I got the larger tank ready including temp and humidity and went ahead and moved Toro and Lil' Blue since they were out and about. Either Bumpy or Biggin one comes up to eat at night but we never see them and have no idea where they are buried. Should I be worried about Biggin going cannibal with Bumpy molting?? And am I in the right moving the other 2 to the new crabitat?

Re: Tank Upgrade w/ molders
Yes, go ahead and move any active crabs to the new tank; if one is down molting, wait until that one is up and around to move it over. Yes, there is a risk of an active digger running into a molter and taking advantage of a free meal, so if you can see that one come up and move it over, that would be ideal. If not, just having reduced the overall number in the 10g will help reduce the risk of cannibalism. Best wishes.
