Oil diffuser for humidity (without oil of course)

Has anyone tried using an oil diffuser (without the oil) to add humidity?

Diffusers don't really put out much and most are going to lower the temperature. Plus, it's going to get destroyed. Not going to hold up to what a crab can do to it
