I read somewhere about fans in(?) crabitats helping with humidity and providing a more natural like habitat.

Anybody know about this? I would want to do it more for the reason of giving my crabbies a nice “tropical breeze”, haha.

Did I even understand it right…are these fans in the tank? What kind of fan?

Any info is always appreciated, thanks everyone!

Try a search for reptile or aquarium fans.

I think for your big intricate crabitats with toppers, fans would almost be a necessity to even out the temp/humidity.

For a 20, 29 or 40, it's probably not needed.
Two 29gals. 3 PPs in each.
~200gal of fish tanks. Mostly planted community tanks.
Multiple kiddos, doggies and kitties.

The little USB fans, like for computers. Have to cover it in needlepoint canvas or similar to protect crab legs.

I tried that Image, but wasn’t sure if what I was seeing would work. I have a 40g breeder with a 30g exo terra tank topper…

Thank you!

Ok, saw those…but all I could think about was the crabs crawling over them and getting seriously injured. Makes sense to cover it with mesh. And I can just run the cord out along with my bubbler lines, I guess….?

Thank you, Wode! Image

I think that's the key. One of those USB power fans. They're about 5" tall. Maybe wrap them in a mesh aquarium filter media bag.

And consider cord protector (sold in hardware stores) so the crabs don't snap through the cord accidentally or on purpose. I've never been able to run anything inside my tanks because my guys destroy electrical cords.

Computer fans don’t short out in the humidity? I was looking at aquarium fans but many of them seem designed for rimless tanks and look difficult to mount in my crabitat.

They'll corrode eventually. I used a little metal 4 inch desk fan for a while but anything metallic eventually rusts or corrodes, the cover rusted out in a couple of year.

How did you mount the desk fan?

The reptile fans I’ve found so far seem designed for a screen top. I’m trying to mentally picture some sort of suction cup arrangement, or somehow clamping a fan to the bottom tank lid or to the topper door…

I mean, 3M doubtless has an adhesive that would do the job, but then I’d have the opposite problem- how to get the fan off the tank!

EDIT: One user of this fan set theirs up outside of the tank with a hose to blow air in.
