Single Crab Chirping?

Eugene never digs... like NEVER. But he has dug himself into a pit at the back of the tank up against the glass (So not exactly private) and he's chirping! I can't really see what he might be doing because i don't want to move the tank in order to see him better, but I didn't know if chirping happened during pre molt or molt.

I've had Eugene exactly a month now, so i figure it's possible he's ready.

Has he been doing it still? Chirping is usually a distress sound, like they are scared of something, or got themsleves stuck. I've had molters chirp at each other before while all underground, but it's not considered a normal event.

No he's not chirping anymore, but he has been digging alot more and he's been out of sight for several days.. I see evidence of digging in several places so I'm assuming he's either preparing to mold or already molting.. I have been keeping the tank mostly dark and just kind of looking around for him each day and sniffing for unusual smells. Not disturbing anything in the tank when I look.. just eyeballing.

I had one that chirped every single time I walked past the tank for three straight weeks, and then he never did it again. That situation still makes my scratch my head a decade later, because it was just so strange! Crabs are weird.
