Rescue crab species check

Post by Arkos » Tue Jan 25, 2022 12:47 am

So I just rescued a hermit from someone who lost their other crab and knew that he needed a buddy. I was told the other crab passed due to a molting complication. The substrate my new crab “Bubbles” came with was soaking wet and smelled very strongly of salt. Clearly the crabitat they were in was filled with that so I’m sadly not surprised the other one had a bad molt. The supplies that were given to me were of course the awful pellets, a bottle of some kind of hermit soaking salt, and a really sub par water conditioner. It looks like she was trying her best but was definitely in need of help. Bubbles will be far happier in my little crab paradise. I just needed a second opinion on his species, as he looks a bit different from my 4 PPs. Thanks guys Image

It looks like a pp to me... It has those cute eyes :D plus the trademark purple claw. Also, the previous owner probably bought from something like PetSmart who sells mostly pps. Hope I helped!

Purple pincher (Coenobita clypeatus). Their colors will vary but they’ll keep the same basic shape and the purple claw is a good clue.
