Help me buy the correct size please!
Hi all!! My guy is stubborn and won’t upgrade. I figured it’s time for new shells. However, it’s driving me crazy trying to find the correct ones that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
I’m not sure if I’m aloud to post links, but I wanted to buy this 24 pack off Etsy.
www.etsy.com/ca/listing/248492842
The listing size says: 1 1/2” - 2 1/2”, with the opening being 1”.
can I have advice/ opinions? Thank you guys

you say you've been trying to get him to change... what size openings do you currently have? and are they all turbos? PP's tend to like turbos, but maybe your fella would like to try on a D shape opening? I don't know, just spitballing here.

Those are a great choice of shells but they probably won't as big as you're hoping. They will have more room inside though because the shells are thinner and lighter, and should fit him a bit better. With turbos, openings are half the size of the total shell, which makes them a bit easier to buy blind.

I have a few D openings which are over an 1” opening, he has never touched them haha, along with a couple turbos that should be the next size up for him. I guess he really likes the green one lolJlmills525 wrote:you say you've been trying to get him to change... what size openings do you currently have? and are they all turbos? Thank you for the insight, they’re worth a shot to give him more variety. Also a bonus if I adopt later in the future !wodesorel wrote:Those are a great choice of shells but they probably won't as big as you're hoping. This may sound dumb, but maybe try putting in shells that look similar? One of my crabs will only put on green turbos with similar patterns. He was only in a different color once and he changed within 2 days. He only really likes the green ones.

Yeah... One of my crabs only likes pearled turbos. Maybe it has something to do with the textures.

Texture is a factor. Many crabs prefer the smooth mother-of-pearl interior.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I tried to provide some variation, such as green banded turbos, lighter green turbos, and tapestry
Doesn’t seem to care for them but loves to try them on, I have the non polished ones I linked to coming in the next few days.
However, luck seemed to be on my side because I scored 25+ medium to jumbo polished turbos off of Facebook market place for $50 US! so hard to find them here in Canada at a affordable price.
That aside, pretty sure he’s finally down for a molt, after making a large mess haha

It looks like he's stuffed into a ~1" opening turbo shell and needs a 1-1/4" opening?
I think most of my 6 little PPs at this point have changed into natural green turbo shells that are quite large for them. They can retract way inside the shell.
I've purchased shells from Pepperlonely and World-Wide Market Inc. Both from Amazon. Good sellers. Shells as advertised. Bigger shells I believe Etsy is better.
