RIP Jack

Post by elocin444 » Thu Apr 07, 2022 5:52 pm

Today we said goodbye to our friend Jack. 😢😢 We rescued him and (who I call) his little sister in October 2020 from the trash on curb in my neighborhood.. After his resurfacing last month he was not the same, very lethargic and he just let go yesterday. My issue now is that his little sister Sallie, both named after Nightmare Before Christmas, has been buried for close to a year now. She hasn't resurfaced since 2021 and I don't know if she's alive.. There hasn't been a smell or anything but I don't know if it's just because she's buried. Any advice? She's the only one left in tank, should I dig her up at this point??
TIA

I'm so sorry!

You're sure she hasn't been coming up at night while you are sleeping?

Thank you. I'm taking it pretty hard.. I'm pretty sure she hasn't been coming up, haven't seen any tunnels or holes where she may have surfaced. I tried listening and haven't heard any sounds or scratches either..

If you're pretty sure then, I would say it's ok to dig since she's the only one left and it's been so long. Please let us know what happens.

Ok well I dug everywhere and only found Jack's last molt spot and an empty shell.. Best case scenario lil Sally had died peacefully in her sleep and nature then took over.. 😕Thanks for your help!

Awe that's a bummer.

I guess at least you've got some confirmation. Sounds like you gave them their best life the time you kept them. They were probably so stressed and weakened by the time you got them that there was not much you could do but try and hope.
Two 29gals. 3 PPs in each.
~200gal of fish tanks. Mostly planted community tanks.
Multiple kiddos, doggies and kitties.
