Hey all! Ever since I got my crabs I have been wanting to track how far and how fast they go on their crab wheel. I finally figured out how to do it! It was actually pretty easy. I bought a wireless bike odometer on Amazon and attached it to my wheel. I'll post links below. Here is the odometer I used:

You have to install a magnet next to a sensor in order for it to work. They have to be REALLY close together. I drilled a hole in the crab wheel and screwed the magnet onto it and attached the sensor to the back of the stand with zip ties. Can't wait to see how far they go!

Hahaha awesome idea! Do you set the odometer to the wheel size?

Yes! It didn't record any traveling last night but I'm still figuring out how the computer part works.

Re: Crab wheel distance tracker
Ok well the update is that I had to remove this system for the time being. The magnet that the system uses as the sensor was attracted to the wheel stand so when it would pass it it would get stuck. This could still work if the stand was plastic. I think it would be possible to construct a stand out of eggcrate, however I do not feel like doing that rn so unfortunately I'm shelving the project.

Aw, that's too bad - it was a great idea in theory! Sorry it didn't work out in practice!
