Ultratherms

Post by CrabbyLover77 » Fri Feb 10, 2023 6:24 pm

Hi All!

Are Ultratherms available anywhere besides Reptile Basics and Bean Farm? I'm looking to get the 11x35" for my 40 gal breeder I'm setting up. Both RB and BF are sold out of that size. If my house stays between 71-74°F in the winter, do you think an 11x23" would heat up my 40 gal? The tank is sitting within an entertainment center that is against a wall. So I'm thinking because it's more enclosed it might help warm it up. I'm shooting for not having more than one uth per tank to avoid even more wires all over lol. I do have an extra ultratherm that is 6x11" I could stick on a side if I had to. It's not an emergency to move my 5 crabs in my 29 gal to the 40, so I'm thinking I may just wait until the 11x35" is in stock.

Tysm!

Mods/Admins, if you would like to remove this post you can. My uth became available and I was able to set it up on my 40 gal tank. So all is good, thanks!

It's still a great question :)

There are other ultratherms - Amazon has several different brands available. The downside is most of them either don't heat up very well, or they are not able to be insulated because they are already insulated.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

Thanks GB! Good to see you back on here! How are you feeling? Image

I know everyone always recommends Ultratherm or Flukers uths, and I really like the Ultratherms I have already. I was so glad when it became available again. All 5 of my crabs from the 29 gal are in the 40 gal now. They seem to be loving the new digs!

The Ultratherms from Bean Farm or Reptile Basics are the best in my opinion. I'm glad you like yours!

Regarding Ultratherm size for your 40-gallon terrarium, I would recommend using 11x23 inches as a minimum, especially if your house stays between 71-74°F in the winter. However, if you can wait until 11x35 inches becomes available, that would be the best choice for heating your terrarium. You can use an additional 6x11 inch ultra-therm as an additional heat source if needed. However, as you pointed out, it is better to use only one UTH to avoid too many wires in your terrarium.

Thanks for your reply! My larger uth did come in and I've got everything all set up. The crabs are nice and toasty lol.

Ultratherms go on the outside of your crabitat, not the inside. Therefore, there would not be any wires on the inside. ;)
