adding more substrate

i need to add like 3 inches of sand but i think i have underground crabs and isopods will they be fine or do i wait??

Just add in gently (use a cup or something similar to avoid dumping in the sand, as when you dump it in it can be a little too aggressive and cause tunnel collapse). Once added, don't pack it down.

Also do not remove large decor (rocks, wood, bowls) as crabs commonly dig underneath and can lead to tunnel/cave collapse when removed. So add substrate around burried/big objects.
