40 Gallon Breeder Tank Lids by KyMart

Hey guys! I recently got a 40 gallon breeder tank I will be setting up within the next few weeks, I am having trouble finding a lid that will fit it! I would prefer glass but a mesh one will work bc I could put plastic wrap over it! Any suggestions?

Don't get the Aqueon lid, it doesn't fit. I also have a 40 gal breeder tank and bought that lid from Petco. It's about 1/8" too long and doesn't fit correctly on the tank. Here's the one I got and it fits perfect (if you don't have a center brace):

Yw! It's supposed to fit, but for some reason doesn't. Other people had the same trouble as me judging by the reviews on Petco and Amazon.

I don't have a center brace thank you! And yeah, I know, I have heard so many bad things about almost all of the Aqueon lids not fitting the right tanks! When I bought my 10 gallon tank at Petco I looked at the lids and a worked helped me make sure they would fit, and all of the boxes where labeled wrong and we couldn't find a 10 gallon lid, so I got a wire one and saran wrapped it. I just don't want to do that this time!

It's so dumb how the Aqueon lids don't fit the tanks they see made to fit! Like you guys made the tank, get the lid sizing right!

I know, so crazy! And they keep getting negative reviews about their lids not fitting, yet they still don't fix it!

Side note, I also tried the Aqueon lid on my 65 gal tank and it didn't fit that either. It's also 36"x18" (just taller than the 40 gal), so it should have.

I think it's not only a problem with putting them in the boxes and marking them wrong, but a problem with measurements. Like I swear some sizes of the lids don't fit any standard tank size!

I think I got my 2 lids for my 55g at my local pet store, either there or on Amazon. They might be Aqueon, but they do fit. Weird.

Interesting.. did you test them at the store on your tank before you bought them? I recommend getting a worker to help you do that if you get more tanks in the future, it helps you insure that when you get home the lid you bought will actually fit on the tank. If your tank isn't with you for whatever reason, you can have them test the lid on an aquarium of the same size if they carry it.

I simply calculated what size the lids would need to be, then found them and bought them. I don't plan on upgrading for a while, but next time I do, maybe I'll try and test it. But honestly, they've always worked for me- lid sizes. I've never really had a situation of "oh no, it doesn't fit!"
My lids always fit just enough for them to work. The silicone/plastic at the end of the lid (not the part of the lid you open) usually makes it fine to the other side. I still put packing tape over it, so my crabs don't find a way to escape.
