What about store bought popcorn? Smart food? (stupid questions probably) Would it be better if I buy the kernels themselves or get already made popcorn? I'm not sure what foods are okay for crabs and what foods aren't, store bought food and scraps seems dangerous but I'm very very new!

I have only fed mine this so far (I only have given it to them once):
https://www.etsy.com/listing/991313987/ ... ed-popcorn

I got a sample bag with the busy boxes I ordered from the same seller, but I have my own air popper so I plan to just use some Amish Country popcorn kernel and give them some of that! Buying popcorn kernels and cooking it on the stove would probably be cheaper then smart food popcorn! I totally recommend getting a busy box for them and then putting popcorn in it so they can roll it around and pick at it to get the popcorn out! It's enrichment and snacks in one!
I have 5 PPs in a 40 gallon breeder!

Ooo! Have you left a link for a busy box yet?

I think a bit of store popcorn wouldn't be a problem at all. It was Curly or Wodes on here that let me know a bit of salt and butter for crabs is fine. Just never use iodized salt for their drinking/bathing water. I have a little army of crabs, so buying the big jar of kernels is cheaper for me. I also use popcorn for a couple of my foods on Etsy. So I'd prolly go broke trying to buy the already made stuff lol!

Motorcrab and Xenocrab on here have the original Curiosity Cube, which is where you can put food bits inside and the crabs have to fish it out. I bought 2 cubes from them and my guys really enjoy playing with them! Their shop won't be open again on Etsy til July 7 though.

Off-topic, when I mist their tank should I be using primed water/dechlorinated water?

I'm fairly certain you don't have to, but I do. It's just a habit to dechlor all my water. Is your substrate moistened to sand castle consistency with dechlor fresh or salt water? Also, what kind of lid do you have. I use glass lids which keeps moisture in really well, and I never have to mist. You can also use a mesh screen lid and wrap it all in saran wrap.

I have a screen too wrapped in plastic wrap and I must the tank daily to maintain humidity and to keep the sand moist, currently using RO water but I'm getting some Prime and Instant Ocean. I've currently got OR water for freshwater and "thrive" saltwater conditioner but like I said, I'm going to the shop's tomorrow to upgrade since my current water supplies don't give them the nutrients they need/deserve!

Very nice! Just make sure your sand can hold tunnels and doesn't collapse from being to dry when they try to dig. Image

That's an interesting topic, how should I do that?
I believe my crab Moe is trying to dig right now but I can't tell.

Also, once I get the prime for my water, should I continue to list with RO water or start misting with Primed water?

Usually, before you add your substrate to the tank, you moisten it with dechlor water. I put mine in a big bucket and mix it that way. If you squeeze it and water drips out, it's too wet. If you squeeze it and it holds its shape but isn't dripping, you're good to go. If no one is under and your substrate isn't moist, I'd suggest moving your guys to a temp holding spot, and moisten all of your sub.
You can mist with whatever water you prefer. :)

Gotcha! Is it okay if I wait until tomorrow to do that or is it something I need to do ASAP? I'm doing tank renos tomorrow once I go shopping.

Ps-Just don't mist with saltwater. That can cause a build up of salt in the sand if you are spraying a lot.

Also is it possible to give me a list of unsafe and safe foods for crabs? I'm about to feed them and I'd like to know my options Image

Sorry about all the questions, but can I moisten the substrate with RO water or does it have to be dechlorinated/primed water?

(also, dechlorinated water is the same as primed water right? prime is just the brand?)
