I’m happy with my crabitat and so are my crabs so thought it might be fun to share some photos!
My crabitat features
- salt water bath
- freshwater pool (lower level on top of platform to protect potential molters)
- 4 hides
- moss pit (various hermit friendly mosses)
- shell shop (on craft mesh second level which helps keep them from getting too Sandy - hard to see in photos) about 5 shells or more available to each size crab
- three hammocks
- two climbing walls
- hamster wheel (which the crabs adore)
- jute ropes and vines
- foraging items (hermit friendly leaf litter, castings, green sand, millet/sprouts, sea sponge, egg shell, seasonal flowers, etc…
- cork wood pieces scattered about
- cholla wood (on second level above substrate to avoid molding)
- food dishes that are changed daily
- large artificial climbing tree with rock hide (super lightweight and doesn’t mold so I keep this on the substrate - totally hollow inside and crabs love to climb on and in it)
- lots of artificial hanging plants to help create many places to hide
- suction cup climbing logs under hanging plants for places to hide and sleep
- about 8” of substrate (mostly playsand w some eco earth to avoid getting too humid since I live in a humid are) and around 4” of substrate at lowest point
- tank heater and additional heated blanket around outside of tank for insulation and use in winter months or when air conditioning is turned on
- uv light w timer for daytime (this helps give the live plants some food)
- red/blue light for nighttime viewing
- two hydrometers to ensure humidity is proper
- one thermometer

Mini crabitat photo tour!
Re: Mini crabitat photo tour!
PS it is hard to tell in the photos since I am only taking pics from the front of the tank but the crabs have lots of walking room on the substrate / ground. They also have been MUCH more active now that the tank has a lot do stuff going on. I think they feel safer to explore and move about knowing that no matter where they go there is a potential hiding spot nearby!
