So my oldest Male crab is molting atm, and this is his first time (in my care) and my first time seeing it! Except...I can't see him? I can't even find the hole he climbed into! He's not on any of the sides
of the tank and I haven't seen him anywhere else. Is that normal, or is it possible he got out?

Molting...or gone?
Re: Molting...or gone?
That's totally normal! They close the tunnels up behind them to keep other crabs from climbing in behind them! It may seem scary, but it's natrual, I promise!sunflower_crabitat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 9:13 pmSo my oldest Male crab is molting atm, and this is his first time (in my care) and my first time seeing it! Re: Molting...or gone?
I was worried Frog got out a few weeks ago (he showed no signs of molting), I have a bad feeling and went to put new water in and spilt the water in the tank, I was worried about flooding, and I had all crabs underground. So, I took everything out.. I had to dig everyone up, which luckily everyone was not molting and healthy! I put the three in a tub after a dip in freshwater and he was still gone! I dug through the sand like six times, and he was nowhere! I balled my eyes out and put everything and everyone held accounted for back in. Nine days later he was found on the bathroom rug, all limbs accounted for! I wouldn't worry too much, or let this freak you out. Just have hope that if he did escape you will find him, and if he didn't, he will come back up soon.sunflower_crabitat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 9:22 pmOh thank goodness!

Re: Molting...or gone?
I cried so hard, I was worried about my baby! I cried myself to sleep every night hopping I would wake up with him on my chest cuddling with me.. I check on him many times a day, just to see what he's doing, and make sure he's still in there!sunflower_crabitat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 10:46 pmOh gosh! I'm sure that was traumatizing
