Mineral Sea Salt Jelly
Mineral Sea Salt Jelly
Is this mineral sea salt jelly an adequate substitution for a salt water pool?
The product description says it contains moisture, salt, calcium, and other ocean water minerals.

Re: Mineral Sea Salt Jelly
Do you mean jelly like for hair? The picture you put in didn't come up for me If it's for hair I wouldn't put it in the tank, because there may be stuff added for hair in it that could be bad for the hermies. If it is safe to put in though, then I dont think it would be a good idea to entirely replace the salt water pool, because the hermit crabs do need to be to soak in the water

I highly doubt it would be as effective as marine salt, do you have a link to the product itself? On the off chance its ok and im jumping to conclusions

The entire page is in korean though.
The manufacturer doesn't seem to be the best source for hermit crab care but the product itself seems safe.

It can't just be safe, it also needs to have all necessary minerals unfortunately. And I could obviously be very wrong in my impression from not knowing Korean and from the autotranslate being, well autotranslate LOL, but from the comments it seems it's made for them to snack on, and some reviews say their hermits dont enjoy snacking on it even. And even if the hermits did eat it, it needs saltwater anyways in order to not only consume the nutrients but maintain a proper balance of water inside the shell. Do you have access to any of these?: https://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/p ... 27&t=92553blubblub wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 7:39 amhttps://www.coupang.com/vp/products/729 ... 5810364345

I think u are right about it being just a snack so I'll just get some reef salt for a proper salt water poolmyllkti wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 1:47 pmIt can't just be safe, it also needs to have all necessary minerals unfortunately. Re: Mineral Sea Salt Jelly
Hermits can absorb moisture from things like moist dirt via capillary action, but I haven't seen anything where they can do so with salts to regulate their shell water salinity levels. So food wise it would likely be fine, and even for basic hydration it would probably work (depending on actual ingredients) but for their comfort it likely wouldn't do the same job as a saltwater mix.
Honestly this feels like it's trying to match the ease of beetle jelly, which is totally different niche pet care.

Beetle jelly! Wow, is that similar to cricket quencher?

Beetle jelly is entirely plant based using agar, and offers complete nutrition for certain species of beetles that are kept as pets. Cricket quencher is plastic polymers that absorb fluid (same stuff in baby diapers), sometimes with vitamins or minerals added.
