Pumpkin

Post by Hermitkrab78 » Sat Nov 11, 2023 3:40 pm

I want to buy a pie pumpkin to give to my hermit crab but I had a few questions about preparing it for him. One should I boil the chucks before I give it to him or is it okay to just give it to him raw? Two can I freeze the chucks so I could give it to him later? Three can I give him the seed and if so should I cook them or are they ok if I clean them up and give them to him?

All parts of pumpkin, and the vine it grows on, are edible for hermit crabs, and you can serve it cooked or uncooked - it's entirely up to you! Freezing or drying is a great way to store it for later. Personally I feed mine dried, only because it's how I like to store it. Cooking it may make it easier to cut into meal sized portions though since it can be tough to cut up when raw. I'd suggest baking over boiling if you can, it'll keep more nutrients!

Hi! Yes, I can usually feed my cancer with boiled pumpkin, which I freeze. But only I usually take it out of the freezer in advance so that the temperature is familiar to him. In the beginning, I used a kitchen thermometer like these, so that the temperature was the same as in his house. Over time, I just remember how long the pumpkin should be on the table. So I hope I was useful with my experience, health to your cancer!
