Crab in turbo shell the wrong way
This morning I went to my crabitat to check on my crabs and when I was looking at one of my crabs, I noticed he was wearing his turbo upside down if that makes sense. The curve of the shell was on the wrong side rather than on the usual side like usual. Will he fix it himself or should I do something to intervene? He’s a small Purple Pincher.
Re: Crab in turbo shell the wrong way
How has he been with shells before? His abdomen may be on a different side as most crabs so he might just be looking for the righ shell shape. That's just an idea of course, I dont have the context to know for sure

He has only been in this turbo shell since I got him a few months ago so I can’t say how he has been in past shells.

I’ve only had him for a few months and I haven’t seen him in other shells so I can’t say how he’s done in other shells, but usually he wears the shell like how my other PP wears their turbo.

Re: Crab in turbo shell the wrong way
If they do it just to eat or rest for a little while and then move to another location, it's no big deal and it's just them being little weirdos. I've seen my own crabs do this occasionally, usually when something yummy catches their attention.
If they're in that position and not moving for an extended period of time then something may be wrong with their health, as it can be a sign of weakness and them not being able to physically carry their shell anymore.

I just came home from being out for a few hours and he’s been in the same spot but he doesn’t appear to still be in the “upside down” position but I’ll keep and eye on him. Thanks!

I had a crab who was positioned like that, in order to use her big pincher to modify the 'top' of the shell.

Mine do this occasionally, sometimes when they're trying to climb something and they trip. I wouldn't worry about it.

When I'm in the shower, I'll let mine walk around in the bathroom, and she often gets in that position when checking out my clothes piled on the floor. I think it is a relaxed state that indicates (at least in my case) that the crab is comfortable with her surroundings.
