I’m a new member

Hi
My crab was out of his shell because the one he was in was so small so I let him be and came back home hours later he was still out of his shell so I panicked and did some online reading and I put him in one of the shells I had in the tank.

Also I realized that there was a lot of water under the substrate and the tank smelled really bad like it was stagnant.

I cleaned the entire tank out dried it and replaced it with new substrate. The crab was loosing his color so I dipped him in water and few times a day and kept him near moss and yesterday he regained his color and looks great and I was so relieved. But tonight he has not moved at all, I don’t know if it’s because after a molt it takes time to gain strength back or he is dead ! (Also I know he molted because I found eskoskelten ) I been so emotional this entire time , I’m feeling really down and out and like it’s my fault . I been considering rehoming the other one I have because I think I killled this crab.

Anyone have feed back or support?

Freshly molted crabs do become pretty sedentary after molting, but the fact it was naked usually means something is wrong. Did you find the exo on the surface or did you dig it up while replacing the substrate?

It sounds like you might have had a bacterial bloom with the stagnant oversaturated substrate. How is your crab doing now?
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
