help?

Post by kya.lol » Thu Mar 07, 2024 4:05 pm

I’m new to having hermit crabs and i’ve been read up on lots of stuff and i went to most the tank after i got home from school and there’s a full claw sitting behind the hermit crab i can’t see him because he’s hiding behind a plant, he might be molting but above the sand? i seen him out his shell last night and my other hermit crab seems to be in the sand

Is the claw hollow? Are there any more bits of exoskeleton laying around? Sounds like they dropped a limb, which is a common response to stress or injury. Try to maintain good heat and humidity and provide daily protein options to help them grow it back

New crabs often come with Post-purchase Syndrome (PPS), which is a catch-all term for negative health issues in new crabs. Not much can be done to prevent it but good care can help them get through. Usually they’re all good once they molt once under your care

it has fallen off, when i got him there was a crack on the claw that fell off and i was told he would just molt it off and the second hermit crab i got was missing a leg and i didn’t know till i got home, i have read that they can grow them back, can they survive without that claw or a leg?
