I think my crab is dead

Post by crabbypaddy » Tue Apr 30, 2024 3:34 am

On April 25th I got 4 hermit crabs and one was completely lifeless but it didn't smell so i assumed that perhaps it was merely surface molting.

It's been a few days and it still hasn't moved or anything and I've brushed it's legs and stared at it to see if it would move. It doesnt stink and its pretty stiff and has been since i got it.

It did have a slight scent on the 3rd day and like it or not, I dipped it in the primrd fresh water and it's been scentless since.

I feel pretty certain I was given a dead crab but I don't want to fully investigate for incase it's still alive.

Am I crazy to think this crab could still be alive but merely frozen as it's molting?

What should I do?

If it was molting, it would shed it's exoskeleton. However, there is no harm in waiting a few more days to see if it moves or not, or starts to smell.
