Eat each other?

Post by C: ClareCrabOwner :) » Tue Feb 04, 2025 5:14 pm

Can you have crabs of different sizes with each other? Or will they eat each other?

I've read large crabs will eat smaller crabs. How much larger do they have to be for this to be a concern? I'm nervous about my crabs doing this!

Crabs will only eat/harm eachother if there is not enough resources for all of them. If their is enough shells, protein, and space you should be fine. It does not matter the size of the crab. They live in groups of babies to 30 year old jumbos in the wild peacefully! :)
I love my two cool crabs Zote and Fizban.
And my cats Echo and Smudge.

I agree that it is not likely in most cases

I add two small crabs in with my jumbo, without any problems. The size difference is such that the little ones can climb in and hide inside one of the jumbo's extra shells.

I'm glad I don't have to worry about that! :)
